Industrial Obsolescence is Guaranteed

It's inevitable, industrial obsolescensce is guaranteed for virtually every compnent, and every system. The industrial revolution is where it all began, but you have to keep in mind that it never stopped.

The world of industrial automation is fluid in nature. When you look back to the 1940's and 1950's, you can see the emergence of electric motors as a replacement for human labor. Motors began showing up everywhere. These motors came in all shapes and sizes and the technology behind these motors was really just getting started. That technology was just in its infancy, it was more like a newborn baby.

Electrical and mechanical enginners began motorizing everything they could. Operations normally performed by human hands and strong backs could now be done by pushing a button or turning a switch. This advancement was really another industrial revolution.

The motorization of factories around the world accelerated immediately. Industrial motors could two or three person operations into a one person job instantly. One person could control multiple operations without the help of others and could perform multiple duties while standing still near a control panel.

The industrial motorization was not without growing pains however. Motors created a new hazard to humans. The new automated functions could be started when human operators were not expecting motion. Also, electrical hazards began to exist in place they never were. As the industrial machinery begame more efficient, factory workers were exposed to a higher level of risk.

As time went on, motors became smaller and faster. They became more energy efficient and motor control helped to make these motorized machinery functions safer for employees. The big clunky motors of early industrial automation began to steer toward industrail obsolescence.

Today we take motorized machinery functions in our factories for granted. Efficient servo motors have emerged as the technology of the future and they continue to evolve in both size and efficiency. But in a few short years, this technology too is guaranteed to find itself in the realm of industrial obsolescence.
